SPRING 2017 – ¡Bienvenidos!
Hola estudiantes,
The student blog has now been updated with all course syllabi for the Spring 2017 Semester.
Be sure to select from CAMPUS or WEB classes as appropriate.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
1. ACCESS TO CONNECT (once your Connect course has been paired with Blackboard – check with your instructor first):
If you are taking SPAN 1441 or are a transfer student and need to purchase access to Connect (where you complete online assignments for campus classes / all coursework for web classes) for the first time but are waiting for funds to arrive for financial aid, etc., you can take advantage of the Courtesy Access to be able to gain access to your assignments immediately. Courtesy access is good for two weeks. Instructions for this are in the registration files on the blog pages for each level.
2. START STRONG — FREE TUTORING PROGRAM OPTIONS: UTSI (University Tutorial & Supplemental Instruction) offers 6 FREE hours of private tutoring for first-time freshmen enrolled in SPANISH 1441 or SPANISH 1442. To sign up, students must visit UTSI in Ransom Hall 205. Upon completion of their first tutoring appointment by February 17th, they will receive five additional free tutoring hours (six in total). Students who used the program do not need to register with the UTSI office again, but must still meet the new deadline. Hours from the previous semester do not carry over. SPANISH LAB – ALL STUDENTS: UTSI will be offering free ‘walk-in’ tutoring to all students during the spring semester on the 2nd floor of the Central Library. The start date for this and hours offered for ‘walk-in’ tutoring will be announced within the first few weeks of classes starting.
3. HERITAGE SPEAKERS ENROLLED IN SPAN 2314: If you are a heritage speaker of Spanish (i.e., you understand Spanish well and speak fairly fluently, but you need to take this level course for credit), you SHOULD be enrolled in a section of SPAN 2315, which is Intermediate II Spanish designed for heritage speakers and which addresses your specific needs with respect to grammar and composition.
Courses in SPAN 2315 are offered at these days and times for the Spring 2017 semester:
DAYTIME = MWF 10:00-10:50 a.m. & T-TH 11:00 a.m.-12:20 p.m.
EVENING = T-TH 7:00-8:20 p.m.

4. HERITAGE SPEAKERS ENROLLED IN BEGINNER LEVELS:
As stated in the course description for all Lower Level Spanish courses, heritage speakers are not allowed to take beginner level courses. If you have previous knowledge of Spanish, you need to take the CLEP test to determine if you can place out of all 4 levels of Spanish or if you should begin in Level 2 or 3.
